Mimi Zouch
Mimi Zouch (b.1984) is a contemporary abstract painter and sculptor based in North-West London. In 2020, Zouch made the leap into her career as an artist and the following years served to accelerate her self-taught practice through experimentation with the use of acrylics and pigments on various surfaces.
Further exploration of different media and processes led her to develop her practice of paper manipulation by way of carving the paper’s surface to create textured paper sculptures.
Bringing a sense of calm and peace through her art, Zouch’s unique and intricate textural works are inspired by her outdoor adventures and fascination with the natural world, embracing the positive effect that connecting with nature has on our mental health.
“It’s important to take time out of our busy lives and immerse ourselves in nature. I find being outdoors quiets my mind and allows me the space physically and mentally that I need to be calm.
I’m particularly inspired by patterns I see in tree bark, mushrooms, sand, bodies of water and rock formations. I find myself obsessing over the beauty I find around me – documenting my findings in photos that I then re-visit in the studio.
The feelings I’ve experienced in nature are channelled into my art, whether I’m energised, soothed or thoughtful. My art brings those peaceful moments outdoors into your home.”
